The Pilot Program

School program ‘‘School milk'' is being carried out in schools of Talin in Aragatsotn province.

Introdaction

The effectiveness of school feeding programs depends on several factors that include the choice of school nutrition model and target groups, as well as related expenses. The school nutrition program enables not only pupils’ health improvement, but also is able to effect the educational process and the actual effectiveness may be changed depending on its organization. This program was approved in different secondary schools of many countries at governmental level. In the United States, Germany, Japan, China, India and other countries dairy products are included in school diet as a compulsory. Funding programs for school meals in different countries are carried out by means of the state budget, as well as various international and charitable organizations, private companies and children's parents. The project sets out basic principles and mechanisms of elementary school meals in Aragatsotn region.

Purpose of the program

- The program held in primary (1-4) classes of secondary schools in RA improves pupils' health preservation and strengthening
- prevention of diseases - development of milk usage and dairy product culture among pupils in RA schools
- elaborates development of milk and dairy products consumption from producer to consumer.
Program target The main aim of the program in primary schools is pupils' health promotion and healthy food usage development. "School milk"program is proposed to include milk in school meals as an obligatory food. From the point of nutritional value milk is considered as naturally created perfect and useful food. Milk meets all the needs of organism growing, such as proteins, calcium and other necessary materials. Every child must drink 150-200 ml of milk per day which includes the following ingredients: 40 % of vitamin B2 requirement dose, vitamin C, 24% of fat and 16% of protein.

Participants of the program

The beneficiaries of “School Milk” program are the following schools: school N1 and N 2 in Aragatsotn region in the city of Talin, and pupils of primary schools of (1-4) classes in Tatul village. The total number of students is 342, including 192 from N1 school pupils of Talin, 100 pupils from school № 2 and 50 pupils from Talin village school.

Program ensuring mechanism

The main mechanism of “School milk” program conducted in these schools includes daily provision of milk and loafs in schools.

- coordinates the project implementation in the regions.

Self-government department

Regional administration of Aragatsotn region and Talin municipality creates a commission of representatives from Public Department of sanitary services for food safety, school headmasters, parent committees, and other organizations, which
-locally coordinate "School milk" program- is an operational solution for software problems
-carry out monitoring in the framework of school health
-organize safety monitoring of food products used in school meals and make quality checks in licensed testing laboratories,
-օrganize regular checks of hygienic condition in schools canteens and kitchens
-provincial government is funding the pilot program for purchasing milk boilers or heaters in three schools.
- The municipality funds canteens and kitchens utility bills of these schools
